Arjun Earthperson, Egemen M. Aras, and Asmaa S. Farag, doctoral students in the Probabilistic Risk (PRA) Group at NC State Nuclear Engineering, were awarded the Graduate Student Winner prize of the ASME SERAD 2023 Student Safety Innovation Challenge. The paper, “Introducing OpenPRA: A Web-based Framework for Collaborative Probabilistic Risk Assessment”, was developed and submitted under the supervision of Dr. Mihai A. Diaconeasa.
Annually, the Safety Engineering, Risk and Reliability Analysis Division (SERAD) of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) hosts a challenge to undergraduate and graduate students to submit papers on Safety Engineering, Risk and Reliability Analysis topics, including papers already submitted to the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (IMECE). The papers are peer-reviewed by experts in these areas. The top winning papers in each of the undergraduate and graduate groups were honored at a SERAD Awards Banquet during the 2023 ASME IMECE conference. Recognitions also include plaques and cash honorariums for the winning student authors sponsored by FM Global.
