About:
Olivia Mehalick is a Nuclear Engineering student at North Carolina State University with a passion for fusion materials and exploring how engineering advancements can drive sustainable clean energy. Beyond her research, Olivia is dedicated to nuclear science education and outreach, working to inspire curiosity and build confidence in future engineers.
Current Projects:
Olivia is currently working on the project “Qualification of Grain-Oriented, Additively Manufactured Tungsten in DIII-D”. Her research focuses on pre and post-exposure material characterization, utilizing tools such as a Scanning Electron Microscope and Wire Electrical Discharge Machining. This work contributes to advancing material selection for a fusion reactor by improving the understanding of additively manufactured plasma-facing materials.
Outside the Lab:
Whenever Olivia is not on NC State campus, you can find her at a thrift store with a cup of coffee in hand, at the beach surfing with her friends, or taking care of her bunny, Fig.
