About:
Kirtan Davda is a postdoctoral researcher at North Carolina State University, working on the upgrade project of the DIII-D Neutral Beam Injector (NBI) system. He earned his PhD in Energy Science and Engineering with a focus on nuclear fusion from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in March 2024. During his doctoral studies, he upgraded the Filterscope diagnostic tool for the DIII-D tokamak to experimentally investigate divertor neutral dynamics.
Current Projects:
Currently, his research focuses on developing an RF inductively coupled plasma source to replace the traditional electrode source in the NBI system at DIII-D, aiming to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the system. He has over five years of research experience in the field of plasma exhaust and divertor science within tokamak physics, concentrating on neutral dynamics, neutral diagnostics, and divertor closure.
Outside the Lab:
When not immersed in research, Dr. Davda likes to plane-spot, hike, travel, take photos and taste different kinds of coffee.
