Now Accepting Applications for the Young Investigators’ Summer Program in Nuclear Engineering

Step into the future of nuclear science and technology with the Young Investigators’ Summer Program in Nuclear Engineering at NC State University. This immersive three-week residential experience invites high school rising juniors, rising seniors, and graduating seniors to explore how nuclear engineering addresses global challenges and solves everyday problems.

The Experience

From July 6 to July 24, 2026 (with check-in on the afternoon of July 5), you will live on campus and dive into the world of nuclear science. The curriculum is designed to be hands-on and multifaceted, featuring:

  • Academic Rigor: Engage in expert-led lectures and labs.
  • Diverse Topics: Explore nuclear energy, radiation detection, nuclear security, waste management, and industrial plasmas.
  • Real-World Application: Work on a small group project and take part in industrial field trips to see nuclear engineering in action.

Cost & Funding

The program’s all-inclusive cost is $2,400, which covers your dorm room, all on-campus meals, and industrial trips. To ensure the program remains accessible to all, the overall cost is kept significantly lower through generous funding from Duke Energy; as a result, no individual tuition scholarships are available.
