Research Description
I am a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at North Carolina State University and a member of the Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) Group.
My research focuses on:
- Multi-hazard and external hazard probabilistic risk assessment.
- Hybrid methods for modeling dependencies in PRA.
- Uncertainty quantification and computational methods for fault tree and event tree analysis.
- Dynamic PRA and risk assessment methods for advanced reactors.
- Machine learning and surrogate modeling for nuclear safety and Fire PRA.
Background
I received my Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State University and my B.S. in Nuclear and Radiation Engineering from Alexandria University.
My master’s research, conducted under Dr. Ayman I. Hawari, focused on transient analysis and the development of a benchmark for the Transient Reactor Test Facility (TREAT). My doctoral research, conducted under Dr. Mihai A. Diaconeasa, focused on probabilistic risk assessment and the development of Hybrid Causal Logic methods for multi-hazard risk analysis.
I have also conducted research at Idaho National Laboratory on seismic resilience of electric-power infrastructure and on the effects of aging and material degradation on the seismic fragility of nuclear containment structures. Other research has included fire PRA, machine-learning methods for nuclear safety, microreactor transportation risk, reactor transient analysis, and development of computational tools for PRA.
