Research Description

My research interests are at the intersection of nuclear propulsion, marine engineering, and energy policy, with an emphasis on developing sustainable nuclear systems for maritime applications. I intend to pursue a Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering followed by a Ph.D., with the goal of becoming a subject matter expert in maritime nuclear propulsion.

Background

I am a Mechanical Engineer at Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII located in Newport News, Virginia. As one of only two shipyards capable of designing and manufacturing nuclear-powered submarines, NNS offers the opportunity to work directly with advanced nuclear technologies. I currently serve in the Submarine Fluid Systems group. Prior to beginning my full-time role, I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering from Texas A&M University, where I participated in research groups focused on the thermal hydraulics of ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) and contributed to the construction of multiple remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) for research purposes.
