Research Description
Ahmed is pursuing a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Mihai A. Diaconeasa. His research focuses on developing advanced probabilistic risk assessment methodologies by integrating computational modeling and nuclear engineering principles to enhance the safety and reliability of complex systems.
Background
Proficiency spans neutronics, radiation safety, and plasma applications. Key academic projects include:
- Graduation Project: Computational plasma physics modeling via COMSOL Multiphysics and integrated applications.
- Postgraduate Diploma: Design and application analysis of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) for deep-space exploration and extraterrestrial colonization.
- Nuclear Computational Summer School (MEPhI, July 2019): Cross-platform CFD/FEA/neutronics coupling.
- Master’s Research/Thesis: Computational laser-plasma interaction studies using Particle-in-Cell (PIC) simulations, later transitioning to solving the Neutron Transport Equation using the Discrete Ordinates Method using OpenMC and Dragon5.
Additional previous activities include:
- Overseeing non-medical radiological activities within industrial radiography facilities and nuclear power plants.
- Experimental physics, data analysis, and error quantification.
- Training in reactor operations and safety protocols at the Egypt Test and Research Reactor II.
