Congratulations to Aidan Glickman (2023/24) and Catherine Zurawski (2022/23), recipients of the US Department of Defense (DOD) SMART Scholarship. 

Aidan is a native of Raleigh, NC and will be a junior this fall 2023. He has completed undergraduate research in the Department with Dr. Yang on “Nuclear Sensor Materials and Devices” and currently at BWXT as a summer intern. Catherine is from Mercer Island, Washington and will also be a junior in fall 2023. Currently, she is on her summer internship at a US Department of Defense facility.

The objective of the SMART program is to build future leaders in twenty-four STEM disciplines and is the largest education and workforce development initiative under the Department of Defense STEM Program. Scholarship recipients receive hands-on experience at one of over 200 Department of Defense facilities during their internships and apply this knowledge as early career professionals. Students may hold the scholarship for a minimum of one year to a maximum of five years.
