Edward Chen wins best student paper award at ANS NPIC&HMIT

Congratulations to NC State Nuclear Engineering doctoral candidate Edward Chen, who won best student paper award at the American Nuclear Society (ANS) 13th Nuclear Plant Instrumentation, Control & Human-Machine Interface Technologies (NPIC&HMIT) Topical Meeting.

Chen’s paper and presentation was entitled “Dynamic Model Agnostic Reliability Evaluation of Machine-Learning Models Integrated in Instrumentation & Control Systems”. Ed is a doctoral candidate whose research foci is autonomous diagnostic digital twins for nuclear control systems. This paper’s work was performed for an Idaho National Laboratory (INL) project led by Dr. Han Bao. Dr. Nam Dinh is his faculty adviser.

ANS NPIC&HMIT is the de facto forum for nuclear instrumentation and control (I&C) and human factors engineering (HFE) professionals to meet with leaders in industry and academia, discover the state of the technology, exchange information, and discuss future directions. In addition to an impressive list of government and industry leaders, they are also planning several outstanding hot-topic technical sessions and popular plenary talks for professionals from across the nation and internationally.
