Sadman Sakib’s proposal submitted to the FY 2025 RTE 2nd Call titled “Impact of irradiation induced defects on thermal conductivity of zirconia” has been selected for Nuclear Science User Facilities (NSUF) Rapid Turnaround Experiment (RTE) award. This project aims to systematically quantify how radiation-induced defects affect thermal conductivity in tetragonal zirconia (t-ZrO2), a key phase in the oxidation layers of zircaloy cladding used in nuclear reactors. The Co-PIs for this project are:
- Kaustubh Bawane, Idaho National Laboratory
- Zilong Hua, Idaho National Laboratory
- Lingfeng He, NC State University
This will provide Sadman with access to the Accelerator Laboratory at TAMU for ion irradiation of the samples and also access to Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) – Microscopy and Characterization Suite for post-irradiation examination (FIB & TEM).

Heartiest congratulations to Sadman and the team for the award and best of luck for a successful completion of the project! Thanks NSUF for the support!
