Abstract
In this presentation I will give an overview of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and its Reactor Oversight Process. I will also be discussing the current trend of US nuclear power and its intersection with international nuclear energy leadership and impact on safety and security. In addition, I will discuss personal stories of my professional experiences and provide career advice.
Biography
Shadi Ghrayeb is currently the acting Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) resident inspector at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania. Previous positions at the NRC include technical reviewer for dry cask storage and transportation systems for the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards and technical adviser for the NRC Headquarters Operations Center. Prior to the NRC Shadi served as nuclear engineer for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Energy. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a PhD in Nuclear Engineering (2013), Master of International Affairs (May 2012), M.S. in Nuclear Engineering (2008) and a dual B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics from Rensselaer polytechnic Institute (2007). He was the recipient of two Department of Energy graduate fellowships and completed nine internships at the three national labs, International Atomic Energy Agency and the U.S. House of Representatives.
