Dr. Dohee Hahn
Director
Division of Nuclear Power
International Atomic Energy Agency

Dr. Dohee Hahn assumed the position of Director of the Division of Nuclear Power, Department of Nuclear Energy, on 8 September 2015.

Dr. Hahn has over 30 years of experience in the nuclear field. Before joining the IAEA, he was Vice President for Advanced Nuclear Energy Systems at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). In this position, he led national research and development programmes in the areas of fast reactors, very high temperature reactors and related fuel cycles. He also participated in high-level strategic planning and management of the institute.

“Nuclear power is the most reliable energy source in the foreseeable future and has an important role to play in meeting the increasing global energy needs,” said Dr. Hahn. “The IAEA is supporting Member States interested in starting a nuclear power programme and those who have plans to expand their nuclear power share. I am glad to be part of this effort.”

Dr. Hahn started his career at KAERI in 1990 as a principal researcher on fast reactor safety. Since then, he has been working at increasing levels of responsibility for fast reactor technology development and served as Division Director for sodium-cooled fast reactor technology for over ten years. Inn 2009, he was appointed as Vice President for Reactor System Technologies, and served as Vice President for Advanced Nuclear Energy Systems from 2011–2014.

Having served on numerous national and international committees on advanced nuclear systems, Dr. Hahn has also been the Technical Director for the Generation IV International Forum for the last two and half. He holds a M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering from Seoul National University and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the North Carolina State University, USA.
