Ph.D positions

We have openings for Ph.D. students interested in computational mechanics, nuclear fuel performance modeling, and scientific machine learning. Ideal candidates have a background in nuclear, mechanical, aerospace, or materials engineering (or applied math/physics) and interest in:

  • Finite element methods and computational fracture mechanics
  • Nuclear fuel behavior and materials under irradiation
  • Machine learning for physical simulation
  • Programming (C++, Python; MOOSE experience is a plus but not required)

Students in our group gain experience with DOE’s simulation tools and have opportunities for internships and collaboration with National Laboratory.

To apply: Email Dr. Jiang with your CV, transcripts, and a brief statement of research interests, and apply to the NC State Nuclear Engineering graduate program.

Undergraduate researchers

NC State undergraduates interested in research experience in computational modeling are welcome to reach out — opportunities include semester and summer research.
